Is it illegal to have a 12 year old alone for about 10 hrs?

I live in a very good nieghboorhood. There has never been a robbery, thief, anything of that kind. Me and my wife have to go to work. We have to leave our child alone everyday, which is very scary. I call my child every 4 hours to make sure he's okay. I just want to make sure if it's illegal or not. Thanks!
