Why is the majority of the U.S. population ignorant in regards to New Orleans?
Before anyone ignorantly comments, try to do a little research first. It's not what you don't know that's the problem, it's what you think you know that isn't so. Just a few: New Orleans is not Cajun, New Orleans is not below sea level, New Orleans supplies 30% of this country's entire energy, contributes 5 Billion to U.S. treasury annually (it's second largest source of revenue), More than 50% of U.S. oil refining capacity, 80% of all offshore oil and gas, largest port in western hemisphere, ninth in world, near 40% of this countries seafood comes from and/or thru the New Orleans area. Also on a lighter note, New Orleans first in U.S. opera, theatre, pharmacy, first horse derby still in operation, oldest restaurant still in operation, longest bridge in world, oldest med school gulf coast states, largest free show on earth mardi gras,etc.....
